Well, not like Gene Autry in the song of that title, but back in the saddle of my bicycle. Today, with temperatures of around 75 Fahrenheit, but not too much the sun, I decided to hop on the Motta … … Continue reading

Well, now for the actual bicycle ride: after a good and restful night we were up early, as is usual for us when travelling, because I wanted to do my bicycling before noon, if possible, since there were thunderstorms in … Continue reading

Transporting Bicycles

With this post I’m about a week late, because first of all I couldn’t finish it in time before leaving for Port Isabel, and then because our motel, the La Quinta on South Padre Island had an awfully slow WiFi … Continue reading

Video

Hilmar Jung Road

Here’s now, as announced in my previous blog entry, one of the videos I took this evening on my first bicycle ride with the camcorder mounted on the handlebar. I admit, the quality is not the best, as I still have to learn a lot about bicycling and  at the same time recording, but it’s a beginning and it certainly gives a good view of the beauty of that short stretch of Texas Hill Country road.

Hilmar Jung Road

Achieved My 2nd Bicycling Goal

This gallery contains 7 photos.

I wouldn’t have thought I could do it that soon, but yesterday I managed to do the “Twilight Twenty” – [follow that local route here] – on my road bike. Admittedly, I had more of a “mountain” than a “road” … Continue reading

My “New Old” Road Bike

Finally I’ve started to put together the vintage Gianni Motta road bicycle I got myself for Christmas, and which arrived totally disassembled [see my posting “Christmas Present Puzzle“]. This here is how far I got today:

Mein “neues altes” Rennrad

The Motta – Half-Assembled

But now I’ve taken it to the bike shop for the remainder of what needs to be done as I don’t think I’d be able to put the rear derailleur on and run the brake and shifter cables properly. I also don’t have the proper size of nut to tighten the screws for the cranks on the bottom bracket.

I’m really looking forward to riding that vintage Italian beauty.
