Monument in Honour of Friedrich Franz Karl Hecker

Friedrich Franz kalr Hecker was a German lawyer, politician and revolutionary, who, after the 1848 revolution in Germany, was forced to flee to America, where he later served as a brigade commander in the Union Army during the American Civil War. In Cincinnati, Hecker founded the first U.S. Turner Society, a social organization promoting gymnastics and education.
